SaaS homepage conversion with StatusList Teardown

First video episode of "Searching for SaaS"

Not sure if you know, but I also co-host a podcast with Nate Bosscher called Searching for SaaS.

We were doing a breakdown of the home page for his SaaS Status List where I used my learnings from updating my own after taking a course on it in December.

The course was by Emily Kramer and she has a great newsletter post here where she outlines the main ideas of the course.

In the episode we go over a few areas of the homepage that are often overlooked:

SaaS Home Page is a Foundational Element

It’s your best sales person who is on 24x7 to speak clearly about what you do, why you do it, and why a prospect should care.

Make sure you are conveying that to the right customer.

Hero Section

WHAT MAIN PROBLEM DOES YOUR PRODUCT SOLVE?

What is the big problem your audience faces that your company solves?

WHAT IS YOUR PRODUCT OR SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM?

Describe your solution or product clearly. Make it easy to understand & avoid jargon where possible.

WHY OR HOW IS IT BETTER THAN EXISTING WAY?

Compared to the current solution, whether that's a mix of homegrown tools or a competitor, explain the main differentiator.

WHO IS IT FOR?

State who you are targeting with this messaging. Do not use your internal persona names. Describe the audience as they would describe themselves.

Specific enough for your key audience

CTA

  • 1-2 CTA (not too many! and include top stuff... break the eye)

  • Does it flow correctly to the conversion pages?

  • Active word, not passive

  • Examples

    • Flow to DEMO or Trial Page and Match messages

In Summary

If you enjoyed this, check out Searching for SaaS in your fav podcast player if you want to hear Nate and I talk more about SaaS on a regular basis.
